The Muslim Music Festival was a great success with a full house on both Saturday and Sunday concerts. We are all excited to make next year's event even better. Aziz Cooper was the MC for Saturday Night's concert and we have include the full text of his speech here. For more information on the 2006 event go to site www.iced.org.au/mmf.
"Asalaam Alaikum! God’s Peace be upon you! In the words of the 14th century Persian Sufi poet, Hafiz, who said…
The Ambience of Love
We all sit in His orchestra,
Some play their fiddles,
Some wield their clubs.
Tonight is worthy of music.
Let’s get loose with compassion,
Let’s drown in the delicious ambience of love.
"Allah is a creative God and music and creativity has always featured highly in Muslim cultures around the world. From the smallest of atoms joyfully racing around each other to the largest of galaxies turning in their splendor, the whole of creation is worshiping God. The delightful singing of birds and giggling of waterfalls and crashing surf on the beach all herald God’s music. Even our own bodies make music; our heart beat is the basis for all rhythm. God has passed on that creativity to us and we can express our different cultures through music. Music is one of a very few gifts of joy that can be shared across divides.
"The Holy Quran says, O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know each other (not that you may despise each other). (Surah 49:13). If there ever was a time in human history when we desperately need some happiness, harmony and understanding, it is now. Let’s get to know each other. Let’s enjoy each others company and enjoy the music!"
